The civil war continues in Syria. 1300 citizens outside Damascus were killed Wednesday in a chemical weapons explosion. The majority among the deceased were women and children. Since 2011, the Syrian government and president Bashar al-Assad have been under extreme scrutiny by the United Nations and US government.

Syrian Rebels claim pro-government forces used chemical weapons to kill citizens outside Damascus on Wednesday, August 21. President Obama made an announcement Thursday that U.S. intelligence is urgently searching for additional information to try to assess whether chemical weapons were used Wednesday in Syria, said State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki Thursday.
