The sultan is making headlines for allowing Sharia Law in Brunei, including unthinkable acts involving stoning to death for adultery, cutting off limbs for theft, and flogging for abortion, alcohol consumption, and homosexuality. If that is scary enough, there’s also capital punishment for rape and sodomy.
According to Lorri Jean, CEO of the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Services Center, she says she will not
stand for it anywhere,
"We don’t have to go to Brunei to find examples of bigotry against gays and lesbians. It’s not OK in Brunei, it’s not OK in Beverly Hills, it’s not OK in Pasadena, it’s not OK in Los Angeles. It’s bigotry masquerading as religious freedom.”
Jean also announced on Tuesday evening the Beverly Hills city council is voting on a resolution to
decry the Brunei laws.
